Black Pedro Pan is a memoir about Gonzalez's experiences as a young Black boy arriving in Miami from Cuba in the early 1960s. Gonzalez is one of the few Black children to participate in Operation Peter Pan where Cuban parents sent 14,000 unaccompanied minors to the United States out of a fear of Fidel Castro's revolution. The book chronicles his journey navigating racism and racial discrimination as a Black Cuban in the white Cuban enclave. Since those early years, Gonzalez has remained a vocal advocate for Black Cubans' rights in South Florida and on the island where he travels regularly.
